Sports Heroes- Nick Kimbrough and Mr. Gonzalez

Are sports heroes still around?

By: Nick Kimbrough

In the realm of sports, there will always be heroes who help people and their community. Out of those people, who make millions of dollars playing the sports that they love, some take the time to help others and end up being role models.
However, just as some do it from the goodness of their heart, others do it for publicity. Some people may end up being idolized and don’t deserve to be role models, but it is often the public who helps put them into these positions. They are always in the news and take advantage of that. The more they are in the news, the more we hear about the good and the bad in their lives.
True role models are the ones who give back without wanting anything in return. They are the ones who do good even when no one else is watching. So yes, I believe there are still sports heroes still around.

There are still individuals in the world of sports that could be considered heroes to many, but being a sports superstar does not constitute labeling him or her with the title “hero”. I grew up a huge sports fan, and to this day, I still consider sports as an important part of my life. However, I never looked to my favorite athletes to fulfill the need for heroes in my life. My heroes were my family members or people who sacrificed themselves for the good of others…not because they can run, jump, or throw faster and farther than the average person. Does that mean that there are no heroes in the sports world today? Absolutely not, it just means that they are heroes for what they have done that transcends the field of play. They are heroes because of who they are, because of their character, and not because of how well they play a sport.
