What’s the point of the human race? Have we ever done anything positive for the universe?

Most of us wander this Earth with no idea where we’re going, what we’re doing, or what tomorrow will be like. We tremble under the pressure of expectations that we break our backs to meet. We constantly feel as if we are Alice partaking in the Red Queen’s race, running as fast as we can, just to stay in the same place. We take, fight, break, and then attempt to compensate for all the destruction we’ve caused, though mainly just to put our own conscience at ease. So why are we here? If all we ever do is wreak havoc on ourselves and everything around us, what’s the purpose of us even existing? Perhaps our purpose is to be. Not necessarily “be” in a physical way, but to truly exist. A human would be equivalent to an animal if it weren’t for his or her soul, memories, emotions, love, and beauty. We are here to bring what other animals haven’t been able to- change. We live to mask the dreary monotony of an otherwise brutish world.

Although none of us ever asked to exist, I think that it is human nature to want to improve our surroundings for ourselves and future generations. I think we, as humans, have an intrinsic need to leave the world a better place than how we found it. It is our role to question, solve, and learn in order to better ourselves. I believe that, for the most part, humans overall are good and kind. While we have done damage to our environment over the years, most of it was unintentional and without foreseeable consequence. We are working hard to right the wrongs imposed on our planet.
As for the universe, we are just one small planet among billions. We have not yet even begun to explore our universe; we haven’t even left our backyard. In looking into the vastness of the universe, we should think of ourselves as fairly insignificant, having little to no impact on the entire universe. As humans we have dreamed about exploring it for centuries, awed at the wonder of it, and sought answers to the beginnings of it, going so far as to recreating the start of the universe.
